SUSPICIOUS TEENS LEAD SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES TO MARIJUANA BUST DURING A TRAFFIC STOP

NEWS RELEASE

EL PASO, TX- Friday, on 12-16-2011 at approximately 11:15 AM, Sheriff Deputies were patrolling the area of N. Fabens and N.W. “G” in Fabens, TX, when three juveniles were seen at a pecan stand and appeared to be very nervous. The juvenile’s rapidly drove away in a Black Jeep Cherokee and failed to use the right turn signal as the vehicle turned right onto N. Fabens heading southbound. 

A traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle (1996) at the 700 block of N. Fabens by one of the Sheriff’s Deputies. As the Deputy approached the vehicle, the Deputy detected a strong odor of  marijuana emitting from within the vehicle. Contact was made with the driver who identified himself as Joseph Dylon Gordon (17). The front passenger was identified as a 14 year old juvenile and the rear passenger was identified as Steven Arellano(17). 

Upon a consensual search of the vehicle given by the driver, Deputies discovered a clear plastic bag that was in plain view on the driver’s side door with what appeared to be marijuana.  A K-9 was requested to the scene for a further search of the vehicle where additional bags of marijuana were found inside the vehicle. All subjects were charged with the offense of POSSESSOIN OF MARIJUANA U/2 OZ. The juvenile(14) was referred to the Juvenile Probation Department and the other two subjects were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. 

Further investigation revealed, the three subjects had sold some stolen pecans (20 lbs) to the vendor. The pecans were confiscated and turned over to the Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Section. Detectives from Crimes Against Property were also notified. The investigation continues.
