DEPUTY BADGE WHT

EL PASO, TX- Early Friday morning on 12-09-11 at approximately 2:40 AM Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Montana Ave. and Zaragoza Rd. in reference to a single motor vehicle accident.

Deputies arrived to find an 2002 yellow Ford GT Mustang upside down on the eastbound lanes of Montana Ave. with severe damage and at least one occupant inside the vehicle with no signs of life, possibly male. The victim has not been identified. Sheriff’s Office/Special Traffic Investigators were summoned to the scene.

According to witnesses, who were also traveling northbound on Zaragoza Rd., were passed by the Ford Mustang who was seen traveling on the center lane of Zaragoza at a high rate of speed. Witnesses later saw the same vehicle was involved in an accident.

A preliminary investigation has indicated the driver of the Ford Mustang was traveling northbound on Zaragoza Rd. when it lost control attempting to yield onto the eastbound lanes of Montana Ave. The vehicle continued traveling and struck the wall of the Montana overpass and rolled over several times landing upside down on the eastbound lanes of Montana Ave. Speed is a factor in this case and possibly alcohol as beer cans were found within the debris at the scene.

A portion of the northbound and southbound lanes of Zaragoza Rd. have been temporarily blocked as well as the eastbound lanes of Montana Ave. Commuters are still able to travel onto the Montana overpass and on westbound lanes of Montana Ave.  The investigation continues.
