EL PASO, TX- Monday, 11/28/2011, at approximately 5:45 PM, a Sheriff Deputy was dispatched to the 6700 block of Doniphan Dr., El Paso County, TX in reference to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, it was determined that a pedestrian attempted to cross the roadway and was struck by a vehicle traveling south on Doniphan Dr.
Deputies on scene saw a green Ford Escort stopped in the right unimproved shoulder of the roadway and a female pedestrian laying on the outside lane of the roadway. Life ambulance and first responders were on scene. The 79 year old female pedestrian sustained severe injuries to both of her legs as well as serious trauma to her head and was transported by life ambulance to a local area hospital.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office/Special Traffic Investigators (STI) were summoned to the scene for further investigation. Crime Scene Technicians were also summoned to process the scene.
A preliminary investigation by STI’s revealed that the green Ford Escort, driven by a 44 year old male, veered to the right shoulder, while traveling southbound, to avoid striking the pedestrian crossing the roadway (east to west). The pedestrian was struck with the vehicle’s front bumper causing her to land approximately 31 feet from the point of impact onto the outer lane of the roadway. Speed and Alcohol were not factors in this accident and the driver was released on scene. The pedestrian remained in critical condition as of yesterday. The investigation continues.
