EL PASO, TX- Monday, 11-14-2011 at approximately 9:05 PM Strike Team Deputies were traveling southbound at the approximate 5100 block of Dyer St., northeast area(Devils Triangle), in El Paso County, TX, an area well known for illegal drug activity, when Deputies traveling behind a red Ford Ecoline van saw the vehicle change lanes without using its turn signal. Strike Team Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the said vehicle and made contact with the male driver who was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
When Deputies approached and interviewed the driver, the driver became extremely nervous. Due to the driver’s demeanor and for officer safety, Deputies had the driver exit the vehicle and a pat down search was performed. At this time Deputies noticed the driver was also shaking. During the pat down search, the Deputy felt an unknown object outside of the subject’s shirt-upper left pocket. The driver was asked to remove what was inside his pocket and pulled out a plastic baggy with what appeared to be small rocks, possibly crack cocaine.
The Deputies field tested the rocks and the rocks tested positive for the properties of cocaine. The cocaine had a gross weight of 4 grams. The male subject was taken into custody and charged for POSSESSION OF CS PG 1 >=4G<200 GRAMS. The subject was identified as TATE REGINALD (19) and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.
