EL PASO, TEXAS- After being profiled on MANHUNT MONDAY for the April 30th, 2011 shooting in Anthony, Texas (see here…)– Fugitive DAVID “DUKE” AMAYA (28) has been arrested.
After 2 1/2 weeks of an ongoing investigation by EPCSO Crime Against Persons Detectives, late last night 05/17 at about 9:00 PM in coordination with the New Mexico State Police, Socorro County Sheriff’s Office, Las Cruces Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation & the U.S. Marshals Service - DAVID “DUKE” AMAYA was captured.
AMAYA was apprehended during a traffic stop on Interstate 25 in Socorro, New Mexico after information was received he would be traveling by vehicle on I-25 in the same area. AMAYA’s vehicle was spotted & quickly stopped by authorities - he was taken into custody along with his Common Law wife DESIREE VANVERTH (20) who was also arrested for AIDING & ABETTING A FUGITIVE FROM JUSTICE.
At the time of his arrest AMAYA told authorities he was thinking of fleeing to Mexico. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all Local, State & Federal Law Enforcement Agencies that assisted in this investigation which led to AMAYA’S capture.
Extradition Proceedings for both AMAYA & VANVERTH are currently underway.
DAVID “DUKE” AMAYA’s arrest marks the 79th MANHUNT MONDAY capture out of 127 Fugitives profiled.
