EL PASO, TEXAS- In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week. This year the dates are from Sunday, May 15th through Saturday, May 21st to honor those fallen officers & their families as well as those who have served or continue to serve their communities.
The National figure for 2011 alone indicates : 68 men/women and 4 K-9 Officers have lost their lives “IN THE LINE OF DUTY” so far this year.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in March of 2001 was the first Sheriff’s Office in the State of Texas to be Internationally Accredited from CALEA and is now the recipient of the First CALEA Tri-Arc award in Texas (4th in the Nation) to have accreditations in: Law Enforcement, Communications, Training Academy
