SAN ELIZARIO, TEXAS- Early Thursday morning 09-08-10 at 7:10 am, Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a canal bank in the area near 12000 Block of Salcido Rd. in San Elizario, TX in reference to a possible unattended death (body floating in canal). Sheriff’s Deputies along with Border Patrol Agents (Water Rescue) & Emergency Services responded to the irrigation canals in the area where they met Water District Officials who pointed authorities to the location of the found body. Officials spotted the body of a deceased male subject partially submerged in that water near flood gate 601.
CID Detectives were summoned to the scene. The body of the deceased male was extracted from the water by San Elizario Fire Rescue Personnel. The Deceased is presumed to be a Mexican National said to be between 30-40 years of age. Medical Examiner also responded to the scene to officially pronounce the victim deceased. Sheriff’s Detectives are working with the Mexican Consulate to identify the victim & notify next of kin – identity is pending.
Sheriff’s Detectives are treating this Unattended Death as they would a Homicide until ruled otherwise (procedural aspect & delicacy of a homicide). Autopsy results are pending.
