EPSHERIFFFpatchcolorsmall2_47AA0F01 SAN ELIZARIO, TX- Friday night 08-27-2010 at approximately 7:15 PM, Deputies were called out to a residence in the reference to the 400 block of Uxmal, San Elizario,Texas in reference to a found explosive device (grenade). Deputies arrived & met with the homeowner / Reporter who told authorities that while working on a construction site inside the city limits, he found a grenade buried in the dirt. Not knowing what to do, the Reporter placed the grenade in the bed of his pick up truck & drove to his home in San Elizario, TX & called 9-11. For precautionary reasons the surrounding neighbors were evacuated temporarily and the street was blocked off. San Elizario Fire Department responded & the Fort Bliss Bomb Detonator Squad was summoned to the scene. At about 9:30 PM, Ft. Bliss Bomb Squad arrived on scene and took custody of the grenade. The neighborhood was then deemed safe & all were allowed to return to their homes.
