CANUTILLO, TX- Friday night 08-27-10 at about 9:10PM, a Sheriff’s Deputy patrolling in Canutillo, TX observed a vehicle swerving / possible DWI driver. The Deputy attempted to pull the vehicle over but the driver refused to stop. At that point a pursuit ensued, as the driver attempted to elude authorities driving through alley ways, canal banks & back roads. The suspect vehicle finally came to a sudden halt when it got stuck in the desert area near the 7200 block of Seventh St. The driver was taken into custody without incident. He was identified as MATIAS TARANGO (42) of Tucson, Arizona. There was light traffic & no pedestrians on or near the roadways during the pursuit. No injuries or damage was reported. Speeds ranged between 30 to 40 mph due to the terrain / back roads the driver was driving through.
