EL PASO COUNTY, TX- Friday afternoon, 10-09-2009 at approximately 3:00 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a Red Jeep Cherokee at the intersection of Darrington & Paseo Del Este in east El Paso County, TX. Deputies made contact with the male occupants (driver & front passenger
) & noticed both men were acting very nervous & were evasive of questions asked of them. While checking the subjects for outstanding warrants, the front passenger suddenly exited the Jeep & fled into the immediate desert area in a desperate attempt to elude capture. Deputies gave chase on foot eventually losing him in the desert.
A return on the front passenger revealed he was a fugitive from Justice
wanted out of Illinois wanted on various drug offenses to include a Probation Violation. The Fugitive was identified as LUIS MANUEL ROSALES (27) who was said to be armed & dangerous. DPS Air Support was summoned to the scene to assist in the search. The Sheriff’s Office Strike Team also responded to assist in the desert search with newly purchased 4x4 Pick Trucks and all terrain vehicles. EPCSO Search & Rescue Team
members on duty also responded to the area & began tracking ROSALES.
Deputies successfully tracked ROSALES hiding inside a desert brush which was approximately 4 and half miles into the desert from the location of the traffic stop. ROSALES was taken into custody without further incident & was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility for the offense of EVADING ARREST / DETENTION & is now awaiting extradition back to Illinois.
